This piece was inspired by the captivating shapes and colours of starfish. Turned from one piece of Sycamore it was carved and embellished with pyrography, ink and Gilders paste. Finished with Haarlem oil. Timber - Sycamore.  Dimensions - 170mm diameter.

Sunburst

Recycled Rimu, 125 mm height & diameter, 645 grams, Finish buffed Danish Oil. Top is sealed, added progressively-Indian ink, acrylic colours centrifugally and airbrushed, paua. Then gold size and variegated leaf in the concave centre, sealed with a clear acrylic.

Swamp Kauri Bowl on Pedestal

Swamp Kauri.  Five pieces joined to make the pedestal.  Bowl is 1m wide and 140 mm deep.  Height of the bowl and pedestal is 840 mm.  Bark inclusions locked in with resin.  Finish is 20 coats of Rustins Danish Oil.

Inspired by the incredible camouflage and skin patterns of Cephalopods. Created to capture movement. Turned from one piece of Poplar, carved and embellished with pyrography, acrylic paint and gold leaf. Finished with Haarlem oil.  Timber - Poplar 260mm diameter.

Time For Tea

Inspired by steampunk. The piece is macrocarpa turned through multiple axes. The spout is turned with an eccentric chuck. The handle, lid and base are carved. The gears on the body are relief carved then highlighted with guilding wax. Dia170mmx200mm.

Trilogy

A trilogy of intricately textured simple forms, sphere, cube and pyramid.  Made from kauri and totara, textured with pyrography and cut burrs and coloured with Indian ink overlaid with acrylic paint.  55mm cube, 60mm diameter sphere, 90mm equilateral pyramid.

Whakatārewa

Suspended kauri hollow form with walnut supports darkened with ebonizing solution and ebony insert. Finished with beeswax based finish.  Kauri was sourced from a building renovation in Auckland. Brass supports hold the vessel from the supports.   240mm high and 180mm diameter.
